The Nestene Consciousness appeared to be just a clump of molten plastic, who had powers over anything plastic. It could do anything it wanted with any type of plastic, in any shape or form, and usually used them as it's soldiers. These are sometimes known as Autons, and objects used quite a lot are shop window dummies. They look like people, and so are a great deal of use. Before the Time War, the Nestene resembled a giant octopus, but after its stresses during the war it became more liquid in form. Also, in this time, we could see hints of a humanoid face on the creature. The Nestene arrived on Earth in 2005 because of this battle, and needed sources of food and a planet, and Earth fulfilled those needs. Earth also is also a large source of oil and smoke, which it wanted. And so, it wanted to destroy the human race with it's plastic abilities to have the planet for its own. It used warp-shunt technology to animate plastic on Earth, and slowly started doing this on various objects. It knew the Doctor was on Earth, and was fearful, and so set out in capturing him. He used one of the Doctor's friend's boyfriend, and replaced him with a plastic version. The Doctor got away, but it decided that he was too much of a threat and so carried out the main part of the plan immediately. It used the London Eye to transmit the signal, animating anything plastic-based on Earth. But with Rose's help, they flung a test-tube full of anti-plastic to destroy the creature, and it exploded.
