The Doctor believed that every member of the Dalek race had been wiped out in the Time War, against the race and the Time Lords. But he was wrong, as he found out when he came to Earth in 2012, under the salt plains of Utah. There was a secret base here, called the Vault, run by multi-billionaire Henry Van Statten, in which he kept many alien artefacts he had collected, for his own, personal, collection. One of these objects was a being he liked to call the 'Metaltron', and was locked up, damaged, and being tortured by one of his men. He had not realised how dangerous he was at first. The Doctor found out what it was, but Van Statten just ignored him. Rose, and new friend, Adam, went to visit the metal creature. She felt sorry for it, and so lightly touched it with the palm of her hand. Her DNA seeped into the Dalek and it awoke. It escaped the chains that surrounded him, and chased after everyone stationed in the base. It absorbed information and power from one of the computers, giving it full ability to do anything it wanted. The Dalek killed many people, and could fly up staircases, but then it started to go wrong. It felt emotions that Rose did, and when Rose became trapped in a corridor, instead of the Dalek exterminating her, it saved her life. Rose stated that it was 'beginning to question itself'. In the end, it realised its wrong-doing, after the Doctor had threatened it with a big gun, which Rose was annoyed with. The Lone Dalek blew a hole in the roof, to see sunlight, but used its sense-spheres to commit suicide and blew up.
